Topic: A TYPICAL EXAMPLE OF BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

THEME SCRIPTURE:

John 21:18-19 (NKJV)

[18] Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” [19] This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.”

MESSAGE:

The above Scripture is a reference to Jesus’ Words to Peter by the sea shore, some few days before His ascension. These Words reveal a deeper truth about what happens to a believer who is truly baptized in the Holy Spirit.

The phrase, “…when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished..” is a perfect description of one who isn’t yet baptized in the Holy Spirit. The person might have received the Holy Spirit, but might not have yielded to His full control. Then Jesus said, “…but when you’re old,  you’ll stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” That’s exactly what happens to anyone who is truly baptized in the Holy Spirit. You don’t do your own wish when the Holy Spirit takes over your soul; you follow as the Holy Spirit leads the way.

The verse 19 of our theme Scripture gives a deeper insight into the lifestyle of the one who is truly baptized in the Holy Spirit. John recounts that Jesus spoke those Words to Peter, signifying by what death Peter would glorify God. Hmm! Did you see that? It means, when you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, even when it comes to death, if you should die, you have no choice as to how to die. If you have no choice as to how to die when you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, would you have any choice as to how to live your life here on earth? Secondly, Peter was to glorify God with a particular kind of death; meaning, when you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, even your death will bring glory to God. Certainly, it also means everything about your life and living will bring glory to God when you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit.

As 2018 draws to a close today, the Lord says to you and me, that He has taken us seriously by allowing His Spirit to come and live in us. We must also take Him seriously by letting the Holy Spirit in us have the right of way.

Happy New Year in advance.
