Topic: Beware of Men – The Absalom Spirit
2 Samuel 15:1-6
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
The Absalom spirit is prevalent these days as people are becoming more ambitious. Selfless individuals are becoming rare. People are not content with being princes or princesses. They want to be kings and queens. They want the ultimate position, which is the throne. Absalom envied David his father and developed an elaborate plan to oust him from his throne. David was anointed and enthroned but Absalom tried to be enthroned without the anointing.
The Absalom spirit usually engages in heart-stealing mischief. “Absalom” resorts to dubious means to achieve his ambition. He is usually a man pleaser who gives everyone who has a grievance a favourable verdict. He told the people that if he were the king of Israel justice would prevail on the land. The Absalom spirit is a pretentious spirit. He puts on a show of false humility. He employs acts of craftiness to steal the people’s hearts.
Ultimately, Absalom hatches his great conspiracy. Little acts of disloyalty and pretence finally led to conspiracy and rebellion. Never take any sign for granted. Watch out for family, friends, work colleagues and leaders who employ these subtle ways to get you on their side.
Pray that you will not be drawn to the conspiracy of Absalom.
