Matthew 15:14-20; Matthew 23:16-20; Luke 4:18-19;
14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Matthew 15:14-20 and Matthew 23:16-20 show that it is possible to be a Christian religious leader yet be blind. They are very religious but lack revelation. They insist on leading the Body of Christ though they have no spiritual revelation of the Word of God or experience of the power of the Holy Ghost.
Spiritual blindness is a state in which you don’t understand spiritual things. Jesus Christ chided the blind leaders who did not understand what spiritual defilement was (Matthew 15:17-20). He rebuked the religious leaders of His time on earth for leading blind people when they were blind themselves. He concluded that if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch (Matthew 15:14).
Jesus Christ equated spiritual blindness with foolishness (Matthew 23:16-19). He rebuked the religious leaders who taught the people that gifts taken to the temple and the altar were more sanctified than the temple and the altar themselves. He regarded their position as being foolish.
1. Pray for the grace and diligence to be an enlightened leader.
2. Pray also for the discernment to avoid blind leaders.
