Month Theme: The Jubilee
Topic: Bring the Poor that are Cast Out to Thy House
Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 9:1-13; Isaiah 58:5-7; Leviticus 25:8-13
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
Feeding people during the Jubilee was not enough. The Israelites were to go further and provide accommodation for the homeless. Rejection and estrangement are common situations in a selfish and insensitive world. The Jubilee provides hope for the doors of homes to be opened to the homeless. King David who was an astute student of the Law did not forget to invite a survivor of King Saul’s family to live with him in his palace (2 Samuel 9:1-8). He brought Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, from exile into his home in fulfilment of his covenant with Jonathan. He also restored to Jonathan’s son everything that belonged to his father – this was an act of righteousness.
An additional feature of the Jubilee is the provision of spiritual homes for those who don’t have them. God is raising pastors and churches around the world to provide spiritual homes for His people. The apostle Paul admonished the believers to do good to those who were in the household of faith (Galatians 6:9-10). The household of faith is the most comfortable home to belong to. In this Jubilee age, let us compel souls to come into the Kingdom of God.
It is not natural for people to desire to be in the household of faith – we must push them in as hard as possible. Jesus Christ indicated that sometimes we must compel people into the Kingdom of God (Luke 14:21-24). I hear the sound of the Jubilee and there are many unsaved and unchurched people in the world. We must win souls for Jesus Christ and bring them into the Church. Homeless unbelievers and backslidden believers have the opportunity to come into the Church because of the Jubilee.
Prayer: Pray that God will bless you materially to feed and shelter the poor that are cast out.
