Month Theme: Giving and Receiving

Topic: Create Opportunity for People to Give

Scripture Reading:

Mark 10:28-31; Philippians 4:10-23

Main Text:

Philippians 4:10

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

The apostle Paul considered receiving the Philippians’ gifts as giving them opportunity.

Paul did not regard receiving from them as begging from them or robbing them. Receiving their gifts was the means through which they served God. Believers serve God by praying, singing, ushering, exhorting, preaching and other means. Giving is also a way of serving and must be given the same attention as praying and the other forms of service.

Jesus Christ taught His disciples that those who receive and give to prophets and righteous people receive their reward from God (Matthew 10:40-42). When people give gifts to prophets and righteous men, the latter must see the process of exchange as giving the former the opportunity to serve and receive rewards.

You are a source of blessing and not a burden to those who serve and give to you. Give them opportunities to give to you instead of turning them away. You don’t do them any favour by rejecting them and turning their gifts down.

Pray for people who have been a blessing to you before, and those who will be a blessing to you, that God will preserve and keep them blessed.
