Topic: Giving and Receiving
15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
Giving is the act of people releasing earthly goods to God as a gesture of devotion for the fulfilment of His will on earth. Giving to God is an act of devotion that proves our love for Him. Giving to God also involves giving to those He calls to enable them execute His agenda on earth. We give to other people because we love them. We also give to them to enable them fulfil their purpose and also solve problems.
The state of the Church today is not new. In the days of the apostle Paul, the churches lost their willingness and cheerfulness in giving to him and the work of the ministry. No church communicated with him concerning giving and receiving except the Philippians. The Philippians constantly sent gifts to Paul even when others failed to do so (Philippians 4:15). The Philippians did not just practise “giving” but “giving and receiving”. It was a process of “fellowshipping” between them and the apostle Paul but not a oneway traffic. They gave to Paul and in turn received his ministry and the supply of their need from God.
Without giving, life comes to a standstill. The devil is happy to see the Church back away from giving. The world expends energy in attacking believers on the issue of giving and receiving because it knows that WHEN WE STOP GIVING, WE STOP LIVING.
Pray for the grace and capacity to give.
