Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: Harmony Is Expensive
Scripture Reading: Psalm 133:1-3
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
God gives us the anointing to touch people’s lives. If we don’t live in harmony with other people our anointing is useless. The Psalmist describes the harmonious nature of the anointing on Aaron’s life in Psalm 133. The above scripture reference indicates that the anointing flows from one part of the body to another. The Psalmist mentions brethren dwelling together in unity. The anointing flows from the head to the skirts of the garment (feet) – but not the other way around.
These are great marks of harmony. There are several factors which kill harmonious living with other people. Pride, foolishness, jealousy, wickedness, unbelief and unforgiveness are typical examples of attitudes that kill harmony. We are to follow peace with all men without which we cannot see God. Believers should pursue harmonious living with even unbelievers without compromising their faith. If we don’t live harmoniously with them, it is more difficult to win them to the Lord Jesus Christ.
You must develop all the ethics you need to live harmoniously with other people. Boldness is not arrogance. Check your language. Faith is not insensitivity to the plight of others. Exercise some amount of caution. Zeal is not foolishness. Exercise discretion. Be wise.
If you realise that you have a track record of splitting relationships anywhere you go, you need help. Sometimes you may naturally want to blame everyone else for your problems. They don’t like you. They’re jealous because of your progress in life. These are a few reasons you assign to the disharmony around you. Wake up. There is something you must work at. You need everybody and everybody needs you. Gifts which are repeatedly in conflict eventually become irrelevant.
Prayer: Pray for peace with all men, grace to dwell in unity with the brethren.
