Topic: Joy is the Atmosphere for Giving
2 Corinthians 8:1-10; Philippians 4:10-23
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
It is a wonder to observe individuals and congregations who have the gift of giving do so with joy and simplicity. Such people see giving as the role they are called to play in the Body of Christ. They consider it a privilege to give and are not boastful about it.
The Macedonian believers were in great trial of affliction and yet joy supernaturally manifested in them. They were so thankful to God for the gift of salvation they had received that they did not notice their afflictions. Paul mentioned the abundance of the joy of the Macedonians in the midst of great trial of affliction. The Word of God says God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7-8). It is unprofitable to give grudgingly. God makes grace available to us to give towards every good cause and under all circumstances.
Joy makes gifts beautiful in the hands of those who have them. It is the indicator that giving is done out of faith and a free will and not out of compulsion. If someone gives something to you with joy, you enjoy it better. It is the same with God – He loves the gifts of cheerful givers.
Pray and ask God to create in you a new heart which will always give in joy.
