Month Theme: Focus
Topic: Kill him and ascend
Scripture Reading: Judges 8:22-32
1 Samuel 24:4
And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily.
There were good reasons for David to kill Saul. The first is that Saul tormented David for a long time and so it was natural for him to seek revenge. Secondly, Samuel anointed David and prophesied that he was to be the next king of Israel. David knew that somehow, Saul had to get out of the way in order for him to occupy the throne.
David’s men also knew this. They could not take the persecution of Saul anymore. They had struggled enough in the wilderness. Now they wanted to get into the city and enjoy themselves. The only way they could get there was for David to mount the throne quickly.
They were anxious to see Saul go so that David would take his rightful place. It did not matter what method was used. In their estimation, Saul had to go by any means necessary. If it meant deposing him without God’s approval, they were prepared to do so.
Prayer: Pray for the leader God has put over you and yourself, that you’ll be patient to wait for God’s appointed time.
