Topic: LEARN TO TALK TO YOUR SOUL
Psalm 43:5 (NKJV)
Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.
There’s nothing as demoralizing as a soul that is down; and there’s nothing as dampening as a soul that is disquiet.
We all go through moments of uncertainty; yes, so long as we live in this present evil world, you’d find yourself walking through the valley of the shadow of death, once upon a time. The vicissitudes of life can cause you to despair and dampen your soul. But this is where you’ve got to draw the distinction between yourself and your soul. This is where you’ve got to realize that the real you is a spirit, who has a soul; and your soul is like a computer which can be switched on and off. When your soul is off, you’re off; that’s why you’ve got to learn to talk to your soul.
The Psalmist in our theme Scripture asked his soul, “Why are you cast down O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?” The Psalmist knew the distinction between his real self, and his soul, and could identify when his soul was down. When your soul declines in energy and refuses to come along with you, talk to it; encourage your soul to keep hope alive. The Psalmist told his soul: “Hope in God…” then, he added, “For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” In other words, the Psalmist encouraged his soul, that it wasn’t over yet.
It’s not over, until God says so! That’s why you always have to win your soul to be on your side. If you live your soul on its own, and you don’t learnt to talk to it, your flesh will win it to its side. Don’t give your flesh the upper hand; be in charge, by talking to your soul to come along with you.
