Month Theme: Focus
Topic: Let’s Appreciate One Another
Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 18:1-11
1 Samuel 18:8
And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
Let us learn to appreciate each person for what he does to bless us. There is no point in measuring ourselves against one another (2 Corinthians 10:12). Saul could not resist the pressure of the women. He exposed himself to demonic attacks and finally lost his throne through bitterness and disobedience.
The spirit of competition opens a man up to bitterness and oppression. We must refuse to yield to this pressure. If people are not cautious enough to avoid provoking us, we must be humble enough to resist the temptation of envy. Never expect people to be considerate in what they say. Most of them don’t know the implications of the things they say.
If we are not careful, the news of somebody else’s success can bring the pressure to respond negatively. Many people are not renewed in their minds. This becomes evident in the way they analyse and rationalise things. A spiritual man must not succumb to their provocation.
Pray for the humility to resist the temptation of envy.
