Proverbs 15:9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
Today the Bible is telling us that the Lord loves the righteous. Unfortunately, it is not possible for man to attain the God-kind of righteousness on his own. The Bible tells us, “We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). However, Jesus made it possible for us to achieve true righteousness – the state of being made right with God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Now that you are born again, you should strive to pursue righteousness and live a life that will please God. As you draw near to God and cultivate a desire for righteousness, He will draw near to you and grant you the grace to live a transformed life. Today, make a conscious effort to:
1. Seek the presence of God
“Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually” (1 Chronicles 16:11). Beloved, do you set aside a specific time to have fellowship with God? Seeking the presence of God helps us to hear His voice and act in obedience to His will.
2. Walk in the Spirit
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23, NKJV). The fruit of the Spirit is produced by the Spirit of God. As you give God more control over your life, He will give you the power to bear the fruit of the Spirit, or the fruit of righteousness.
3. Choose your company wisely
“The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray” (Proverbs 12:26). The Bible is clear on this – the friends you keep will determine how far you go in life. “He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20, AKJV). So walk with friends who are also pursuing righteousness.
Precious one, as you pursue righteousness, may you be empowered to lead a lifestyle which leads others to God and is acceptable to Him!
Heavenly Father, help me to live a righteous life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
