Theme: Healing and Deliverance

Topic: Recovering Sight to the Blind

Scripture Reading:
Luke 4:18-19;

Main Text:
Luke 13:15-16
18 The Spirit of the Lord  is  upon  me,  because  he  hath  anointed  me  to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to  preach  deliverance  to  the  captives,  and  recovering  of  sight  to  the blind,  to  set  at  liberty  them  that  are  bruised,

Physical  blindness  is  not  a  desirable  state  but  spiritual  and mental  blindness  are  worse.  Jesus  Christ  was  manifested  to destroy  every  form  of  blindness.  He  restored  the  sight  of many  physically  blind  as  well  as  spiritually  blind  people  during His  earthly  ministry.

The word “blind” in the above scripture reference is the Greek word  typhlos,  which  means  opaque  like  something  that  is smoky. The  word  can  apply  to  someone  who  is  physically,  mentally  or spiritually blind. It  is  likely  that Jesus Christ was referring to physical and  spiritual  blindness  in  Luke  4:18.

The  other  conditions  He was  empowered  to heal  like  the  poor,  broken-hearted and  captives could  have been both  physical and  spiritual. This  suggests  that  the blindness in question was also likely to be physical and spiritual in nature. The mandate to destroy the works of the devil, was passed on to all believers (Mark 16:17-18). May you operate in the power and light of the Word of God to recover sight to the blind.

Pray for the grace and boldness to recover sight to both the spiritually and physically blind.
