Mark 10:28-31; Philippians 4:10-23
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
Philippians 4:10-19 shows how to receive gifts from others. The attitude with which we receive gifts will determine whether we will receive more or not. Let us look at a few ways in which Paul received the gifts of the Philippians. Paul rejoiced greatly in the Lord that the care of the Philippians for him had flourished again.
Paul rejoiced when he received the Philippians’ gifts.
God loves a cheerful giver but He also loves a cheerful receiver. Don’t pretend not to like a gift when you need it. Jesus taught that when we receive things as answers to our prayers our joy is full (John 16:23-24). It is difficult to have fullness of joy when we are constantly denied our blessings. The joy that comes from receiving things moves you to be thankful to God and those who bless you. It stirs you up to praise and worship God.
Joy also gives you strength and motivates you to serve God. You should not feel guilty for receiving gifts or rewards for your labour. Sometimes people give to you, who don’t have as much as you do. Receiving things from them could make you think you are taking advantage of them. You should receive from anybody with a free conscience as long as the source is godly and the giver does so willingly.
Thank God for the numerous blessings and gifts He has given you through people.
