Month Theme: Spiritual Warfare and the Jubilee

Topic: Separate your Family from Evil Environments

Scripture Reading: Genesis 31:1-21

Main Text:

Genesis 31:21

So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

Many believers have specialised in identifying the wrong in people’s acts instead of the vital productive lessons they can learn from the act. That is why Jesus Christ said that the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light (Luke 16:8).

When you deal with unbelievers, you must be as wise as a serpent, and when you deal with harmless and peace-loving believers, be as harmless as a dove (Matthew 10:16). Jacob was dealing with a mean uncle and rules of the game were quite tricky. It was necessary for Jacob to move his family forward. He stole them away unawares to Laban. You might have to exercise rare courage when rescuing your family from the controlling spirits of your society.

People would try to cage your family with tribal sentiments and you must resist them. Someone was offended to hear a pastor’s children speak the pastor’s wife’s native language instead of the pastor’s language. My response was simple: the pastor’s wife and children are not in a school of linguistics. It is a family, and all that is needed is the most effective means of communication be it Frafra, English, Spanish, Twi or Hausa. Language is important but it must serve a wider purpose than for cultural identity and social pride. Watch out for intruders who will try to run your family for you though they have ruined theirs.

Prayer: Pray for discernment to know where to take your family and where not to keep them.
