Topic: SEXUAL INTERCOURSE

THEME SCRIPTURE:

1 Corinthians 7:7-9 (NKJV)

[7] For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.

[8] But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; [9] but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

MESSAGE:

Apostle Paul was sincere enough to acknowledge that not all of us have the discipline and self-control to live the single life. Everyone has weaknesses as well as strengths. Hence, much as he desired that everyone would remain unmarried as he was, he never imposed that on the church as a doctrine.

From our theme Scripture, one can deduce that the marital union is the only legitimate boundary within which one can express his/her sexual passion. The verse 9 says, “…if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry.” He didn’t say, if they cannot exercise self-control, let them look for a sex partner or a sex object.

If sexual passion is to be expressed within the marital union only, it means, sexual intercourse is the reserve of a man and a woman who are joined together as husband and wife. Expressing one’s sexual passion outside of the martial union, is indicative of a lack of understanding as to the essence of sexual intercourse (we will discuss this in a subsequent next devotion).

Scripture admonishes, that, it is better to marry than to burn with passion. It is better to marry than to commit sexual sin. Unfortunately, some have been married but are still burning with sexual passion. Knowing the essence of sexual intercourse will help married couples not to deprive each other of sex.
