Month Theme: Divine Assistance

Topic: Stop Complaining; Talk to God

Scripture Reading:

1 Samuel 30:1-20

Main Text:

1 Samuel 30:6
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

David’s men complained about their situation to one another and to him. To complain is to talk about your circumstances instead of the solution to the problem. To complain is to talk to people who can do nothing about your challenge instead of talking to God. Wailers talk to themselves as they sit, walk or lie down. Some believers complain in prayer by telling God how they feel about their situation in detail. They narrate stories to Him and give Him lengthy history lessons.

God hates complaining – He attacked the children of Israel with a fire outbreak because of their complaints (Numbers 11:1). A typical example of the Israelites’ complaining attitude was when they compared the manna God gave them with the food they ate in Egypt. Complainers have something negative to say about everything (Numbers 11:4-6).

Wailers talk about sickness instead of the Healer. They see disease as God’s will for them and though they may go to doctors for healing, they fail to believe that God will heal them. The poor don’t like their condition but they think it is God’s will for them to be poor. If you see poverty as God’s will for you, it will be difficult for you to be delivered from it.

Pray and declare that it is the counsel of God concerning your life that shall stand; not the wishes of evil men.
