Study The Word
Study The Word
By Bishop Charles Agyinasare
2 Timothy 2:15 (AMP)
“Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.”
To study is to work at what we read with the purpose of understanding, retaining and utilising the information. We retain about 50% of what we study.
To study means that you record every fresh revelation you receive while you are busy with God’s Word.
To study also means to ask and answer questions when you read them. It means comparing one verse with another, looking up a topic and learning all you can about it.
There is great depth in God’s Word. When you read, you only scratch the surface. But when you study, you dig deep into God’s hidden treasures.
Let us take a look at three reasons why we must study the Word :
1. To know God’s promises
The Word of God will accomplish what it promises because it is yea and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20). The Bible says further in Isaiah 55:11 (NKJV), “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
2. It helps us develop deep roots in the Lord
In Psalms 42:7 (NKJV) the Bible says, “Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.” Shallow believers only read the Word; but if you desire to develop deep roots in the Lord, you must be a student of the Word.
3. It opens your understanding
Studying gives you a clear understanding of God’s nature, the person of Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, the gift of salvation and the hope of an eternal life with God. The Bible tells us in Psalms 119:130 (NKJV), “The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple”. Through bible study the eye of our understanding is opened.
Precious one, to be a strong Christian and to develop deep roots in the Lord, you must begin to study the Word of God.
Prayer : Heavenly Father, as I study Your word, cause me to be established and open the eyes of my understanding, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
