THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION BY SAMUEL EXCELLENCE
IPR DAILY DEVOTION
Topic: THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION
Matthew 24:15-16 (NKJV)
“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
Our theme Scripture is a reference to the prediction of our Lord Jesus, as to what will happen in Israel, three-and-a-half years after the signing of the peace treaty. We have already established in previous devotions, that, the efforts of the antichrist will be to bring the whole world under one religion, and one government.
While the concept of one world religion and one world government will seem to work, giving a sense of “peace” to those who will be in the world in those days, the nation Israel will stick to the Temple worship and sacrifices that pertain to Judaism. They will not compromise their stands as far as their relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is concerned. Remember, the nation Israel never recognized Jesus as the Christ; they’ll build the third Jewish Temple and set up the throne of David, expecting the Christ to come and deliver them from their enemies and reign with everlasting peace from the throne of David. The antichrist will view this as fundamentalism. We said that, a fundamentalist is one who holds dearly and tenaciously to the tenets of his faith. For Israel to stick to Judaism whereas the whole world will be brought under one religion and one government, that will be seen as a breach of faith.
The writer of our theme Scripture admonishes us to understand what Prophet Daniel refers to as “the abomination of desolation.” First, it will occur in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem (Daniel 11:31). Second, it will involve a person setting up a statue in place of the regular sacrifice in the holy of holies (Daniel 12:11). Third, this will result in the cessation of the regular sacrifice (Daniel 9:27). The antichrist will make these moves simply because Israel will be seen as the cause of the troubles of the world. For Israel to stick to their religion whereas the whole world will be brought under one religion, that’ll be seen as fundamentalism. Meanwhile, fundamentalism has been pointed out as the cause of the troubles of this world.
Apostle Paul also described the abomination of desolation in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (NKJV) thus:
“ Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The antichrist will not only set up a statue to be worship as god, he will exalt himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; he will enter the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, sit on the Throne of David, and demand that Israel worships him as God. This is truly, the abomination of desolation!
In our next devotion, we will discuss what will happen when the nation Israel refuses to submit to such blasphemy. Suffice it to say, that, we must not miss out on the rapture, because, those days will not be pleasant for those who will be in this world.
