Month Theme: The Anointing

Topic: The Anointing is not Mysterious

Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 18:25-39

Main Text:

Luke 4:18

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Jesus Christ was anointed – “smeared” or “rubbed” with oil – to be consecrated into the office of ministering healing and deliverance (Acts 10:38). mandate was a demanding one. It was an assignment that required holiness, obedience, wisdom, faithfulness, power and sacrifice to fulfil. In spite of the enormous nature of His mission, the Lord Jesus Christ was not a weird person. The manifestation of the anointing on Jesus Christ reveals the nature of the anointing believers should operate with. We should not struggle to flow in the anointing like the prophets of Baal did. They tortured themselves in a fruitless attempt to bring down fire from heaven. The prophet Elijah however, prayed a simple prayer and the fire came down (1 Kings 18:27-38).

The anointing is a mystery but it is not mysterious. A mysterious thing is a bizarre thing limited to a few people who are odd. A mystery is reality in the spirit realm revealed by God to be experienced by recreated beings. You have a unique anointing which suits your personality and task. You must learn to recognise this anointing. It may differ in manifestation from another person’s anointing. The behaviour of the anointing in different people’s lives is like the smell of perfume on different skins. Perfumes smell differently on various people because of skin chemistry and other factors like fat content, diet and medication.

Jesus Christ in His earthly life approached people as individuals. In the same way, His anointing flows through you as an individual. Out of your belly flow rivers of living water (John 7:37-40). The power of the Holy Ghost is meant to flow out of you, not to scuffle with your traditions and mind-set to express itself. The anointing blends with your personality thereby making you operate differently from others though inspired by the same Christ. Don’t allow others to confuse you with the way they flow in the anointing.

Prayer: Pray that the Holy Ghost will reveal to you the mysteries of the Anointing, and how to properly operate in it.
