Scripture Reading:

Daniel 3:1-22

Main Text:

Daniel 3:17-18

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image, which stirred up such great fury in him that he ordered his men to bind them up and throw them into the furnace. Refusing to serve satan and walk in the ways of the world put you at risk of being cast into a furnace of trials and temptations. You can be sentenced to imprisonment for having conviction and conscience.

We had a situation in which five teachers in the school of a religious organisation were dismissed because they belonged to our church. There are reports that lecturers in various institutions give students bad exam grades when they refuse to give in to sexual advances. Believers are persecuted in churches for refusing to compromise with their leaders’ worldly ways. The furnace was heated seven times above the normal level to ensure that the young men were completely destroyed. It was heated to this extent JUST FOR THEM.

The heat that came out of the furnace was so much that the men who cast the young men into it were slain. Expect a high casualty rate among those who seek to hurt you as they heat up furnaces to destroy you. Those who dig pits for you to fall into will perish in their own traps (Proverbs 26:27). When Nebuchadnezzar’s men prepared the fiery furnace, they did not know that they did it for themselves. No guillotine belongs to you, no trap has your name on it and no weapon is designed for you – they belong to your enemies.

Prayer:

Pray that you will be “fireproof” to any fire of affliction which has been prepared for you.
