Topic: THE FIRST RESURRECTION COMPLETED
Revelation 20:4-5 (KJV)
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Our theme Scripture gives us a hint about those who will reign with Christ. Apostle John says in the verse 4a, “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgement was given unto them.” Obviously, the word “they” refers to the glorified saints who will return from heaven with Christ; we will sit upon thrones and reign with Christ.
Bear in mind, that, both the dead in Christ, as well as those who will be alive and remain in Christ at the time of the rapture, will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and we will be in heaven, at least, 7years before we return with Christ to the earth. But during that seven-year period, there will be those who will believe the gospel, get born again and will witness for Jesus.
Apostle John says in the verse 4b, that, he saw those who were beheaded because they were either witnesses of Jesus, or they preached the Word of God, or they didn’t worship the beast nor his image, or they didn’t receive the mark of the beast in their foreheads nor in their hands; Apostle John says, he saw that they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. This means, before the thousand-year reign of Christ will commence, all believers who will be beheaded or killed during the great tribulation will be resurrected.
Why will they be resurrected before the thousand-year reign of Christ begins? They will be resurrected before the thousand-year reign of Christ begins, because, all those who will be resurrected after the thousand-year reign of Christ will face a different judgement called “the White Throne Judgement.” We will discuss what the White Throne Judgement entails in subsequent devotions, but suffice it to say that, anyone who will be resurrected after the thousand-year reign of Christ will not be a part of what Scripture calls, “the first resurrection.” So, the verse 5 of our theme Scripture says, “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection” (Revelation 20:5, KJV).
In conclusion, the first resurrection will begin with those who are dead in Christ and who will rise from the dead at the rapture; and together with those alive in Christ, whose bodies will be changed from mortality to immortality, we will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.
And after a seven-year period, the first resurrection will be completed by the time we return to the earth with Christ, and all believers who will be beheaded or killed because of their faith in Christ, will live again, and reign with Christ for a thousand years.
