Topic: THE HOLY SPIRIT
Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV)
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The Hebrew word translated “God” in both verses 1 and 2 of our theme Scripture is, “Elohim.” Elohim is plural; it is the revelation of the Godhead, made up of, the Almighty God, the Word, and the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the first Person among the Godhead to be revealed in Scripture, and that is very significant. When the earth was without form and void; when the earth was empty and chaotic; and darkness was upon the face of the deep waters, the first Person among the Godhead to appear on the scene was the Holy Spirit. Ever before Elohim spoke, Scripture reveals that, “And the Sprit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” The revelation here is that, until the Holy Spirit takes the first place, nothing will take place.
The Holy Spirit does not act without the Word, and that’s why immediately after He had taken the first place, the next verse reveals, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:3, KJV). The Word is a Person, just as the Holy Spirit is a Person; thus, the phrase, “And God said…” is the revelation of the Word as a Person in the Godhead. The Word speaks, but He only speaks when the Holy Spirit has taken the first place. Why, because, it is the Holy Spirit who implements whatever the Word says. When the Word said, “Let there be light”, it was the Holy Spirit who brought light out of darkness; and there was light! Hallelujah!
If we’re ever going to make meaningful changes in any area of our lives, we must follow the same principle, by giving the Holy Spirit the first place in all we do. When the Holy Spirit takes the first place, everything will fall in place. When we toil and don’t seem to make any headway, it could be that we have refused to give the Holy Spirit the first place. The Holy Spirit does not take the first place just because He dwells in you. Until you relinquish the first place, He will not force Himself on you. But when you give Him the right of way, He will guide you in the right way. When the Holy Spirit takes over, the storm will be over.
Get to know the Person of the Holy Spirit in this series; you’d be glad you did.
