Topic: THE POWER THAT WORKS IN US
Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV)
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
We have discovered in previous devotions, that, God’s intent since the fall, has been to dwell in us, and operate from within us, using our bodies as His temple. This has become possible because of the shed blood of Jesus. It was not possible for the Holy Spirit to dwell in humankind in the Old Testament era, because no one could receive remission of sins until Jesus became our substitute.
In this New Testament era, the Holy Spirit dwells in those who have received Him, and either flows from within us as fuel of fire, or, rivers of living water, depending on whether He is dealing with our enemies, or, dealing with the Saints. Whichever way, whether dealing with our enemies, or with the Saints, our theme Scripture reveals the phenemenon of the Spirit’s operation in us; the last line of the verse 20 says, “…according to the power that works in us.” The Greek word translated, “work” in this verse is, “energeo”, from which we got the English word, “energy.” This is not passive or potential energy; energeo means, “To put forth power”; that sound like kinetic energy, isn’t it?
The Holy Spirit is in us, to be at work in us; He puts forth power in the direction of our words and thoughts. And He does exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ASK or THINK, according to the power He puts forth! This is the reason why we must give the Holy Spirit the right of way; this is the reason why we must cultivate an intimate fellowship with Him. The Holy Spirit is not a thing to be manipulated; He is a Person; in fact, He is God, and we must revere Him as such.
Once you have the mindset that it is the Holy Spirit who puts forth power whenever you ask God for anything, or think the thoughts of God, you’ll become a channel through whom the Holy Spirit executes the purposes of God here on earth. Wouldn’t you want to be a vessel through whom the Holy Spirit works?
