Month Theme: Wisdom and Power for Purpose

Topic: The Resolve

Scripture Reading:

Luke 15:11-32; Luke 11:21-26

Main Text:
Luke 11:24

24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith,I will return unto my house whence I came out.

The unclean spirit with purpose resolved to return to its original dwelling place and secure its position. It refused to accept refugee status in waterless places.

To resolve means to have a firm determination to do something. People who don’t resolve to do anything dissolve into nothingness.

Believers must learn a lesson on wisdom from this demon. It reacted to its Hobson’s choice situation appropriately – “I will return unto my house whence I came out” (Luke 11:24). He resolved to go back to his father’s house. His words are strong enough to make the most hardened person reconsider the life of a fugitive and go back home. He said, “…I will arise and go to my father…” (Luke 15:17-18).

The unclean spirit resolved to go back to its familiar territory. Backslidden believers and those who have lost their God-given positions should trust God for the grace to be restored to their places of glory.

The imperative for the Church to go back to the place from which we have fallen is not an easy task. We can only go back to our state of glory by resolving to do so – wishing to go back will not work.

Pray for the boldness and grace to stick to what you have resolved to do, in accomplishing your purpose.
