THE REVELATION OF JESUS (Personal Communion)
THE REVELATION OF JESUS
“Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.” – Matthew 16:16-17 (NLT)
As always, Jesus was looking for an opportunity for people to catch a glimpse of who he was. This time, he was in conversation with the disciples, testing their spiritual insight with the question “who do you say I am?” The answer Peter gave astonished Jesus because he immediately recognized it was not the ordinary Peter that was speaking.
Remember that there was so much doubt about who Jesus was at this point. The earlier verses tell us that some thought he was just another prophet. Very few people recognized him as the Messiah that was promised in the Old Testament.
In order to catch a revelation of Jesus, you need to operate in the supernatural. You cannot operate in the flesh if you want to have a deeper understanding of Christ. Jesus’ message is clear; this type of revelation cannot be taught; it cannot be passed down as a family inheritance. It requires a certain level of personal communion with God through the Holy Spirit. It demands more learning, more seeking, more fellowship. The more you desire, the deeper your insight.
I became born again as a teenager and have served God since the days of my youth. Until now as I approach 60 years, I continue to learn new things about Jesus Christ on a daily basis. The deeper I go, the more I realize I don’t know enough. Follow me on this spiritual journey of relearning about Christ.
Lord Jesus, I desire to know you more and more as my personal saviour. Take me deeper and expose yourself to me in a new way. Amen.
