Month Theme: For This Purpose
Topic: The Spirit of Knowledge and Understanding
Scripture Reading: John 4:20-29
He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Knowledge is the recognition of truth as revealed in the Word of God. Knowledge is backed by practical action and obedience. The anointing should not be confused with ignorance. Some people think that when a person is anointed he does not need to be knowledgeable. On the contrary, people who are anointed and possess revelation knowledge last longer in the things of God than those who don’t study to acquire knowledge. Though Jesus Christ is the Word and God, He fulfilled His earthly mission through knowing the Father and the mysteries of God (Isaiah 53:10-11).
Understanding is the ability to reason and draw conclusions from facts. With understanding you bring together what you know. Understanding is coordinated knowledge. Knowledge without understanding leads to spiritual error because of the inability to judge issues and the propensity to misdirect people. Your knowledge of the Scriptures should be thorough. Jesus Christ feared God and was knowledgeable. He also had the Spirit of understanding. He understood God, people and situations in a way others did not understand.
The captain of our spiritual lives understood the spiritual nature of worship in a way the Jews and Samaritans did not. He understood that God is Spirit and that affects how people should worship Him but the religious folk of the day did not understand the dynamics of worship (John 4:20-24). The Spirit of understanding releases the anointing in a person’s life and makes it easy for the recipient of the anointing to be blessed by it.
Prayer: Pray that the Holy Ghost will guide you in recognising the truth of the Word of God.
