Month Theme: For This Purpose
Topic: The Spirit of the Lord
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11:1-16
And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
the LORD resting on believers typifies the lordship of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Ghost over our lives. You don’t struggle with the devil, world or your flesh because the Spirit of the LORD rests on you. He has absolute power over you and everything around you. The previous six characteristics of the Spirit of God paved the way for the Spirit of the LORD to come upon Jesus Christ. It is rather interesting that Isaiah 11:2 begins with, “And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,…”.
This virtue of the Holy Ghost is what most people want without cultivating the other virtues within them. The Spirit of the LORD (the Spirit of power) is the climax of spiritual empowerment and the apex of divine glory. Without the fear of the LORD, knowledge, wisdom and the rest, you cannot have the power of the LORD resting upon you. Luke 4:18 shows that when the Spirit of the LORD rested upon Jesus Christ, He was empowered to preach, heal the broken-hearted, set captives free and heal the sick. This was because He possessed all the seven character traits of the Holy Ghost.
Jesus Christ cast out demons by the Spirit of the LORD and raised the dead because the fear of the LORD was in His heart. God’s seven-fold Spirit upon you means that your frail nature is carrying the divinity of God. The omnipotence of the Holy Ghost resides in you and rests upon you. It is a mystery that this powerful influence does not crush you. If an elephant “rests upon” a rabbit, the former would crush the latter. The Holy Ghost “rests upon” you but does not crush you. Instead, He empowers you to preach the Gospel but crushes the devil around you.
Prayer: Pray and thank God for His Spirit who permanently dwells in you.
