Topic: The Spirit of Understanding
John 4:20-29; Luke 4:1-19
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
Understanding is the ability to reason and draw conclusions from facts. With understanding we bring together what we know. Understanding is coordinated knowledge. Knowledge without understanding leads to spiritual error because of the inability to judge issues and the propensity to misdirect people. Our knowledge of the Scriptures should be thorough. Don’t read the portion of Scripture where God asked Moses to put off his shoes because the place he was treading upon was holy, and form a doctrine with that. Some people don’t wear footwear into the church building because of Moses’ example!
Jesus Christ feared God and was knowledgeable. He also had the Spirit of understanding. He understood God, people and situations in a way others did not understand. The captain of our spiritual lives understood the spiritual nature of worship in a way the Jews and Samaritans did not. He understood that God is a Spirit and that affects how we worship Him but the religious folk of the day did not understand the dynamics of worship (John 4:20-24).
The Spirit of understanding releases the anointing in a person’s life and makes it easy for the recipient of the anointing to be blessed by it. The Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob received the anointing on Jesus Christ’s life because of the Spirit of understanding He exuded. At the end of her interaction with Jesus Christ, she acknowledged that He was the Messiah (John 4:24-29).
1. Pray that the Holy Ghost will help you to understand the spiritual nature of your family, and the spiritual terrain He sends you to fulfil purpose.
2. Pray also that the Holy Ghost will give you a unique and fresh understanding into your area of business, ministry, study, etc.
