Topic: THE WORD IS MEDICINE
Proverbs 4:20-22 (NKJV)
 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
 Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
 For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.
We established in yesterday’s devotion, that, once you find a Word in your heart which addresses a specific situation, you have found life. The Words of God do not give life just because they are written on the pages of the Bible; they are life to those who find them.
The verse 22 of our theme Scripture says, “For they are life to those who find them, and HEALTH to ALL THEIR FLESH” (Proverbs 4:22, NKJV). The Hebrew Word translated “health” in this verse of Scripture is, “Marpe” (pronounced, marpay). Marpe also means, “cure” or “medicine.” The Words of God are medicine to all our flesh, but they work for only those who find them.
The Word must first dwell in you, and become an integral part of your inner being. Should there be an ill-health situation in any part of your body, remember, the Word of God is health or medicine to all our flesh. What you need to do, is to allow the Holy Spirit to help you search for a specific Word which will address that ill-health situation.
This is not the time to turn the pages of the Bible in a desperate search for the Word; the Word must have been dwelling in you already. And out of the abundance of the riches of God’s Word in you, the Holy Spirit quickens or stirs a specific Word, with which you will address that ill-health situation. This is why you must stay in constant communion with the Holy Spirit, because He is the author of the Word. The Holy Spirit is the one who inspired men to write the Scriptures. He is, therefore, the best Person to help you find the specific Word for a given situation.
The Word you find will always come alive in your spirit; it will be as though you’re seeing it for the first time. There will be a sudden awakening and readiness to let the Word manifest in your life. For instance, Matthew 8:17 can come alive in your spirit, and all of a sudden, you’d discover that, if Christ Himself took your infirmities and bore your sicknesses, then, you must not keep what Christ has taken away; you must not bear in your body what Christ has already borne in His Body. During that discourse, the Holy Spirit can stir another Word in you that will buttress the point. A scripture like, “Affliction shall not rise up the second time” (Nahum 1:9, KJV) can be brought to your spirit.
Just as naturally, you must use a specific medicine to cure a specific disease, supernaturally, there’s a specific Word at a given period that will serve as medicine to all your flesh. You must engage the help of the Holy Spirit to find that Word; for they are life to those who find them, and medicine to all their flesh.
